Various Types Of Itchy Spots
Allergy:
Allergies are one of the most common causes of the sudden development of itchy spots on the skin. However, an allergic reaction may also be caused and triggered by different factors including medications, certain foods, or sensitive reaction to environmental allergens such as pollen, mites, and dust. Though there are different factors triggering an allergic reaction, one common thing is that it is due to the immune system’s hypersensitivity.
The immune system generally reacts as its way of protecting the body from being harmed and invaded by foreign harmful particles such as bacteria, fungus, and virus. However, in some cases, the immune system may react even to harmless foreign substances in the form of allergens. When the immune system reacts, it releases chemical substances like histamine to produce sensitivity and allergic reactions which often manifest in different forms, including itchy spots, skin rashes, and even respiratory problems.
Insect Bites:
In many cases, it has been carefully observed that itchy spots are only caused by insect bites, particularly flea bites or bed bug bites. Insects have a natural substance in their mouth that can produce painful and itchy spots, which are easily identified by the tiny red dot at the center of the spot.
Scabies:
Itchy spots can also be caused by scabies, a type of disease usually characterized by red spots paired with intense itching. The itchy spots are common in some areas such as the hands and feet webbing, the wrist, elbows, armpit, and even in genital area where the skin makes creases or folds.
Rosacea:
Red, itchy spots on the face paired with blushing appearance may be caused by Rosacea, a common condition in adolescents with fair skin. Acne are also a common cause of red and itchy spots on the face.
Eczema:
This is another skin condition commonly associated with the itchy spots on the skin. Atopic dermatitis is one common form of eczema that causes red, swollen, itchy bumps and patches that often crust and discharge body fluid. Another form of eczema, contact dermatitis can also cause tiny red and itchy bumps, especially when the skin has contact with specific materials often found in perfumes, detergents, and even skin accessories such as tattoo and jewelry.
Other Causes of Itchy Spots:
Aside from the factors mentioned above, skin spots may also be caused by other medical conditions such as measles (if paired with sore throat and fever), shingles, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and folliculitis to name a few. You should see a doctor if you are concerned about your itchy spots.
